Personalize by Attachment Style™
Bowlby identified four attachment styles in 1969. He was talking about infants. We applied it to cold email. He would not have approved.
Sends something specific and well-researched, follows up exactly once with something new to say, and accepts whatever happens next without entering a spiral. This is what your best rep looks like before two years in the job breaks them.
Opens every email with “so sorry to bother you again” and closes with “absolutely no pressure whatsoever.” The prospect has named the thread “the situation” and forwarded it to a colleague with no additional context. HR has been notified. Nobody is sure why.
The subject line has been rewritten fourteen times. The draft lives in a folder called “send when ready” alongside 93 others. The prospect got promoted while waiting. Salesforce notes read “nurturing,” which is technically not a lie.
The first email went to the wrong Marcus. The correction went to the wrong Marcus and accidentally CC’d the VP of Sales. The apology for the CC also went to the wrong Marcus. The right Marcus has never heard of this company and is now mildly concerned about a stranger’s wellbeing.
